Porsche design chief Tony Lapine boldly admitted that significant inspiration for the 1978 Porsche 928 was the work of AMC design chief Dick Teague, specifically the "lost-in-(production)-translation" 1975 AMC Pacer. I kid you not.

Classic Cars
Always Call Those Ads

Joseph Cargagna, Jr found this 5,000-mile all original 1971 Gremlin in his local newspaper's classifieds. It pays to follow up on promising-sounding leads...
Did you ever read the classifieds in your local newspaper and see a listing for a car for sale that sounded way too good to be true, so you disregarded it, thinking that it was nothing more than a misprint?

Well, Joseph Cargagna, Jr. thought otherwise when he saw a listing for a 1971 Gremlin, advertised locally, that had been driven only 5,000 miles. He figured he had nothing to lose and called the seller. It turned out the owner bought the car for his wife back in 1971, then she died nine months later. So,he parked the car in the garage and covered it with blankets until he decided to sell it more than 30 years later.

For just a few thousand dollars, Joe got himself a true AMC survivor. The Gremlin is all original, without a single mark on the factory-applied paint, upholstery, carpet or chrome. The compact cruiser looks as if it just rolled off the Kenosha assembly line. So, the next time you see an ad for a Duesenberg in your Pennysaver, it just very well could be the score of the century. But you gotta call to get it.
